'Phantom Lawyer' is a drama that tells the strange yet heartwarming stories of lawyer [Shin Irang], who resolves the grudges (han) of the deceased through possession, and elite attorney [Han Nahyeon], who stakes everything on winning her cases.
In a follow-up interview, when asked about his experience portraying the unique concept of “possession” in the drama, [Yoo Yeonseok] said, “I went all out. If it weren't for the situation of possession, I wondered when I would have the chance to throw myself into a role like this and completely let go of myself. In the past, when I performed in musicals, I was always fascinated watching actors in multi-cast roles change costumes and take the stage as different characters. I found that so appealing, and this was my first time playing such a wide variety of characters within a single project.”
From an idol trainee to a scientist, when asked about the challenges of portraying the distinct traits of the various spirits he played, he explained, “During rehearsals on set, I observed and listened to recordings, trying to connect my performance to the gestures and habits of the original characters who were possessed. Usually, by the latter half of a drama, you grew accustomed to and comfortable with your character, but this set always felt new.” When asked what he never wanted to change as an actor, he answered, “When choosing projects, I want to continue seeking out characters I haven't tried before. I want to explore different genres, and if I've played a good role, I'd like to try a villain as well. I believe my fans will support me in pursuing diverse sides of myself, so I want to keep moving forward with that trust.”
Playing the role of elite lawyer [Han Nahyeon], who assists [Shin Irang] and comes from a major law firm, [Esom] was asked about the challenges she faced in preparing for the role. She said, "Why does she live while hiding her wounds? I kept questioning whether she really had to live so strictly by the manual. The more I looked into Nahyeon, the more I realized that, just like anyone else, she has wounds and loneliness. In the end, we are all the same human beings." When asked what this drama left her with, she replied, “Perhaps it's that I have no regrets. Fully understanding Nahyeon wasn't easy, so I had many conversations with the director. Whenever a new script came out, I would go see him and review each line together, and that process continued through all 16 episodes. I think I worked just like Nahyeon. I really wanted to shape the character without regret.”
