57th room tasting session in 2024
Ben Nevis 4 Year 2019 100 Proof SV
Ben Nevis 4Y 2019 100 proof SV
Highland single malt Scotch whiskey distilled in Ben Nevis and bottled by Signatory Vintage, aged 4 years, refilled sherry casks, 57.1%.
Fragrance: Very strong peat (smoke), nuts, yogurt, raisins and dried plums, subtly sweet scent, granberry, spice, burnt herbal medicine, espresso
Taste: Overtly sweet on the tongue, raisins, very strong peat, spicy, stimulating, milk, yogurt, cheese, citrus, lemon peel.
8 points (delicious, worth buying in a bottle)
Although it is extremely low-ripening, there is no under-ripening, and like Ben Nevis, the structure is strong. This is a surprisingly well-made whiskey that is balanced with a focus on stimulation. However, it has no personality, and I am worried whether this condition will be maintained after airing.
Glenalaki 10 Years CS #11
Glenallachie 10Y CS #11
Speyside single malt Scotch whiskey distilled and bottled in Glenallachie, aged 10 years, sherry, PX, wine cask, 59.4%
Fragrance: Heavy raisins, dried plums, boiled sugar syrup, caramel, fresh grapes, shine muscat, rose (red flower), mahogany oak, milk chocolate, chocolate powder, white chocolate
Taste: Intense dried fruit, heavy brown sugar, rose essence, perfume, woody, tannin, old sherry, espresso, dark chocolate, spicy
9 points (very delicious)
Rehabilitation began with Billy Walker's batch 10. However, although we were unable to achieve the cost-effectiveness of batch 5, we were able to produce quality that made up for the dark times from batch 6 to 9. However, the tannin feeling is unavoidable, and you will have to aim for a long air ring.
Jean Pew Trebeau
Jean Fillioux Tres Vieux
Grand Champagne Cognac, bottled by Jean Fillioux, 40%
Aroma: Strong but light raisins, green grapes, fresh grape skin, boiled fruit juice, light woodiness, spicy spice, cinnamon, tannic bark
Taste: Grape skin, green grapes, raisins, dusty grapes, minerality, rock salt, salty, slight tannin, vanilla, caramel.
9 points (very delicious)
Among cognacs in the 200,000 won range, this is a very seriously made cognac, and I quite like its unique spices and minerality.
