14 days of continuous recording, label meetings
I wrote a song called 'vampirehollie'. I released it a few months ago.
(Rosé released a demo song to fans on SNS in February)
When I left the recording studio, I thought, wow, this is really fun. My song isn't bad, is it? I actually fell in love with the song.
That's how I ended up having more recording sessions.
I honestly didn't have confidence, but my friends and family listened to the songs I worked on and said, "Rosie, this is really good. I think you can really make a good album with this." People around me were really kind and said they believed in me and my work. That gave me courage.
I flew to LA and stayed there for two weeks and had 14-day recording sessions.
One time, it was too hard.
Around the 10th day, I thought, wow, I'm so tired, so I decided to take two days off and canceled the recording on Saturday and Sunday.
But when I woke up on the weekend, I didn't know what to do.
That day, I ended up going to another studio and working on another song.
I think I was addicted to this work.
It was really fun.
While recording, I had to have label meetings here and there.
(At the time, I didn't have a domestic or American agency, so I went to meetings and recording without a company.)
I was trying to be independent.
I was trying to be like a boss.
I went around to label meetings with a scary face, saying, “What kind of suggestions can you give me?”
I trusted my intuition and pushed forward, but the process was actually so hard and stressful.
I couldn't make decisions easily, because I really wanted to make the right choice.
This album meant so much to me that I wanted everything to be perfect.
Eventually, I met a label that loved my music.
It meant a lot to me.
When the label staff said, “I love the music I love,” I thought, “It’s not so terrible!” They were like, "Oh my gosh, Rosie, this is going to be a really good album." And I was like, really? That's how we got here.
