[Korea Travel] Gochang travel story
I went to Seocheon, the home of the proudly flowing Geumgang River.
I started from Seoul and took public transportation for a day trip.
Since it is an area where trains pass by, I went there by train.
Once you get off at Janghang Station, the National Institute of Ecology is right across the railroad tracks.
There are a variety of animals and plants on display, and considering the admission fee, the composition is quite good.
I'm not the type to take a lot of pictures, so I took only a few.
After looking around, I headed to the Seocheon Bird Ecology Center.
To get to the Bird Ecology Center, take Gunsan Bus No. 72 and get off at the Estuary Bank Tourist Site, or walk from the Ecological Garden.
Gunsan Bus No. 72 does not run frequently, so it may be faster to just walk (I walked)
If the vehicle is running, the estimated arrival time will be displayed on the map app, so people who are going to take the bus can refer to that and get on the bus.
The reason I went to the Bird Ecology Center is because you can rent a bicycle here.
You can rent it for free and return it by 6 p.m.
※ The time of travel and writing are different, so the current usage fee, return time, etc. may be different.
Usually, if you rent a bicycle here, you go upstream, but I went downstream (toward Janghang-eup) to go to the Marine Biological Resources Museum.
If you go to the Marine Biological Resources Museum, you will be greeted by a huge glass tower displaying biological specimens.
The life-size whale bone felt quite powerful.
General information about marine life is on display, and videos showing the ecology of marine life are also shown on a huge screen.
Considering the entrance fee, the composition is informative.
Near the Marine Life Museum, there is an observatory where you can overlook the sea (there is an admission fee, but it is refunded with a local love gift certificate, so it is practically free).
Speaking of local love gift certificates, it came to mind, and Gochang-eup Castle, which was mentioned in my last Gochang travel story, also provides partial refunds with local love gift certificates.
※ The local love gift certificate refund policy may have changed due to the difference in time of travel and writing.
It is also good to enjoy the dense pine forest before going to the observatory.
I went to see the reed field upstream.
Before that, it would be a good idea to have a meal and buy some drinks in Janghang-eup, where the Marine Biological Resources Center is located.
Local Love Gift Certificates can be used at this time.
From Janghang-eup to the reed field, the riding is not very difficult as it is mostly flat.
Migratory birds were crying in the rice fields where the harvest was over, and the Geumgang River was flowing calmly.
I felt really good running along the Geumgang River.
The reed fields spread widely along the Geumgang River.
This place is also famous as a filming location for dramas and movies.
After looking around the reed field, I returned to the Bird Ecology Center to return my bicycle.
The distance traveled from the bird ecology center to returning to the origin is approximately 45km.
Train timetable to Seoul
Any healthy adult male will find that a day trip is easily manageable.
That's it.
