Designed by international architectural firm KPF to pay homage to Yongsan Park and complement the surrounding natural elements.
The design of ‘Parkside Seoul’, a new residential-commercial complex, has been revealed.
The 482,600 square meter development aims to enhance the spatial experience of residents.
It consists of a tiered exterior encompassing a variety of programs and public amenities.
In addition to residential space, the complex includes office and commercial space, hospitality facilities, public institutions, and green space.
“As we approached this project with such a large site, the fundamental question we asked was, ‘How are we going to structure it?’
We looked for solutions from the surrounding environment, looking at the surrounding low-rise and high-rise buildings, especially the adjacent Yongsan Park.
First, we started by creating a central axis in the form of a landscaped linear park with the concept of expanding the green area of Yongsan Park into the project.
From there, we used the structure of the building to create pedestrian-oriented I was very interested in creating experiences. "
- Trent Tesch, Head of Design
The organizational structure of the development follows traditional Korean models, with residential buildings on the site connected via a main street with public spaces and amenities.
It also expands nearby Yongsan Park by connecting a series of vertical green spaces.
Parkside Seoul's office area consists of seven buildings connected to each other.
Each building features a folded façade inspired by the gentle waves of the Han River.
A tree-lined commercial street runs through the surrounding area, further strengthening the connection between the cultural complex and Yongsan Park.
The design of the space considered materials, texture, color, form, and scale to ensure a harmonious experience for residents and visitors.
We plan to deploy various programs with a focus on practicality to create a lively and enjoyable neighborhood.
